Growing up, listening to the oldies radio station at home while calmly falling asleep at night is part of my fondest memories. The tone of music kept a memorable quality, a type of safe haven that made the sound create a sense of historic elegance. Hearing this now years later, the same feeling lingers. Music nostalgia is sometimes the greatest gift that can ever be shared especially when it brings you comfort.

There lies sweet memories of singing and learning with my grandma,a Carnatic singer.I still remember the words she used to tell us,Practice, practice and practice. But studies took astep ahead in our lives, keeping aside all art forms. Then comes the school teacher who asked to write afew lines about our favourite "Hobby" and I promptly wrote "listening and singing".
But then the radiostation and its songs kept alive the hobby.I ve memorized hundreds of songs. Memorizing, learning the lyrics and sitting amazed at the wonderful lyrics was all a part of life in childhood ,teens and even today.I am often deeply moved, by the melody or by what the song writers said. I can feel that these words come from the bottom of their hearts: "All my best memories come back clearly to me. Some can even make me cry. Many listenings gradually used to encompass the whole song within me.Nainital,Uttaranchal

Listening to this song brought back my memories vivid.Sitting in the sunshine and listening to a song, what else can be lifes pleasures?

This song was introduced to be by my husband, all credits to him. The first time I came across this song we played it all evening and night and in car and it became a staple for us there. It reminds me of my childhood and It reminds us of each other. It takes me back to all those wonderful memories of my time there at home. I always have to play these when travelling. They take me back to think about everything. I don't know why.
i am listening to this.,http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pBAasek8NR4
The Logical Song
Song lyrics to sing along:)
When I was young, it seemed that life was so wonderful,
A miracle, oh it was beautiful, magical.
And all the birds in the trees, well theyd be singing so happily,
Joyfully, playfully watching me.
But then they send me away to teach me how to be sensible,
Logical, responsible, practical.
And they showed me a world where I could be so dependable,
Clinical, intellectual, cynical.
There are times when all the worlds asleep,
The questions run too deep
For such a simple man.
Wont you please, please tell me what weve learned
know it sounds absurd
But please tell me who I am.
Now watch what you say or theyll be calling you a radical,
Liberal, fanatical, criminal.
Wont you sign up your name, wed like to feel youre
Acceptable, respecable, presentable, a vegetable!
At night, when all the worlds asleep,
The questions run so deep
For such a simple man.
Wont you please, please tell me what weve learned
I know it sounds absurd
But please tell me who I am.
- Roger Hodgson

ReplyDeletePatricia:Its nice that I made yo think about the old songs.
hitchwriter:Thanks for loving the posts and photos. You can also tell me later about how the song is.
Loved the photos, Lakshmi! It's wonderful to be able to look back and remember a moment so clearly just because of the music. I have lots of moments like that too. In fact, this morning I was listening to country music while it rained just because we used to listen to it in the summer vacations in the hills during the monsoons :-)
ReplyDeleteThanks Shalini,Such a wonderful coincidence,isnt it?
ReplyDeleteI couldnt find any photo apt to be put here, but i thought the photo of hills might do a trick here, because its memories and music.
There are lots of songs associated with each moment, but the above said track is a recent favourite.
i have always wondered what it would be like to live somewhere in the midst of a forest in coorg. your pictures make me wonder again...
